Shona our School's Family Development Worker is always working hard to care for Longhaugh's pupils.

Shona Moffat is our School and Family Development Worker. Her role is to be the link between home and school. Shona has a number of responsibilities in Longhaugh which includes monitoring and responding to attendance concerns, family learning and supporting parents with their children. Alongside this, Shona supports with Team around the child meetings to offer support to parent and carers in has connections with a wide range of voluntary agencies who can provide support. Shona is currently working on an innovative project with NHS Tayside Centre for Children and Adolescent Health (CAMHS) and the Mental Health Foundation.  This involves providing support to parents at Longhaugh around thier childs mental health.  See the link to the left for more information.

Attendance -

Dundee City Council have a strategy to ensure 'Every Dundee Leanrer Matters'  Part of the focus of this is Presence - ensuring that all upils attend regularly and promtly.  This will support our children to have the best opportunities in their education.  Shona meets regularly with Mr Albayati, Depute Head Teacher and Mrs Sands, Admin officer to look at attendance in detail.  We follow the Local Authority attendance proceedures around attendance and are keen to ensure children are in school as much as they can be.  Following these meetings, Shona will often contact families to offer support around attendance.

 

Parental Support -

Shona is happy to meet with parents to offer support and signposting around a range of topics such as benefits, behaviour, housing, relationships and opportunities for parents.

 

Family Learning -

There are a range of family learning oppportunities in Longhaugh, from open doors events, where parent and carers can come into the school and work with their children and see their learning, to Bookbug events, Brain Fuel Breakfasts and transtion events.  Over term 2 in Longhaugh, there will be family Learn to Cook classes running in Partnership with the Roundhouse Cafe where families can come together and cook together.
